Home for the Holidays

The following citations from The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy were read during the December 16, 2009 Wednesday Testimony Meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chagrin Falls, OH. After the readings, those attending the meeting are encouraged to share proofs of God's care in times of trouble.  All are lovingly invited to attend the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday meetings at our church.

The Bible

I Kings 13:15 Come (to 2nd ,)
Come home with me,

Col. 2:16 3rd in (to 3rd ,)
in respect of an holyday,

Ps 139:1,2,7-11,17
O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into
heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the
morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy
right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light
about me.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

John 14:1,2
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare
a place for you.

Mic 4:1 it,2 (to :)
it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established in the top of
the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and
to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths:

Ps 90:1,2
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even
from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

Ps 36:7-10
How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under
the shadow of thy wings. They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and
thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. For with thee is the fountain of life: in
thy light shall we see light. O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy
righteousness to the upright in heart.

John 6:10 Jesus (to 1st ,)
Jesus said,

John 15:4 (to 1st .),7,10
Abide in me, and I in you.

If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's
commandments, and abide in his love.

Rom 12:1 (to 1st ,),9-10,11 fervent,12-18

I beseech you therefore,

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be
kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity
of saints; given to hospitality. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with
them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another.
Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be
possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

John 13:34 love (to ;)
love one another;

Matt 7:12 all (to :)
all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them:

Phil 2:1-5
If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the
Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be like-minded, having the same love,
being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in
lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own
things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in
Christ Jesus:

I Peter 4:8 above (to :),9-10
above all things have fervent charity among yourselves:
Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so
minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Isa 51:3
For the Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her
wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found
therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Ps 71:1(to ;),3,5,21,23,24 (to :)

In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment
to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
For thou art my hope, O Lord God: thou art my trust from my youth.
Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.
My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long:

Ps 4:7 (to 1st ,),8
Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

Ps 91:1-6,9-11

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the
Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He
shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield
and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There
shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his
angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Ps 23:1-6
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he
leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a
table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth
over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the
house of the Lord for ever.

Ps 84:4 (to :)
Blessed are they that dwell in thy house:

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

by Mary Baker Eddy

SH 58:21

Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the

SH 254:31
Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God.

SH 291:13
Heaven is not a locality, but a divine state of Mind in which all the manifestations of Mind are
harmonious and immortal, because sin is not there and man is found having no righteousness of
his own, but in possession of "the mind of the Lord," as the Scripture says.

SH 6:14
To reach heaven, the harmony of being, we must understand the divine Principle of being.

SH 456:19-20

One must abide in the morale of truth or he cannot demonstrate the divine Principle.

SH 330:20

Spirit is divine Principle, and divine Principle is Love, and Love is Mind, and Mind is not both
good and bad, for God is Mind; therefore there is in reality one Mind only, because there is one

To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the
divine Principle of all that really is. Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, combine as one, — and are the
Scriptural names for God. All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and
effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine
Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is
Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.

SH 337:7
For true happiness, man must harmonize with his Principle, divine Love; the Son must be in
accord with the Father, in conformity with Christ. According to divine Science, man is in a degree
as perfect as the Mind that forms him. The truth of being makes man harmonious and immortal,
while error is mortal and discordant.

SH 58:5 Tones
Tones of the human mind may be different, but they should be concordant in order to blend
properly. Unselfish ambition, noble life-motives, and purity, — these constituents of thought,
mingling, constitute individually and collectively true happiness, strength, and permanence.

SH 308:1-4
Art thou dwelling in the belief that mind is in matter, and that evil is mind, or art thou in the
living faith that there is and can be but one God, and keeping His commandment?"

SH 102:30-2
Mankind must learn that evil is not power. Its so-called despotism is but a phase of nothingness.
Christian Science despoils the kingdom of evil, and pre-eminently promotes affection and virtue
in families and therefore in the community.

SH 61:4-11
The good in human affections must have ascendency over the evil and the spiritual over the
animal, or happiness will never be won. The attainment of this celestial condition would improve
our progeny, diminish crime, and give higher aims to ambition. Every valley of sin must be
exalted, and every mountain of selfishness be brought low, that the highway of our God may be
prepared in Science.

SH 76:22-29
The sinless joy, — the perfect harmony and immortality of Life, possessing unlimited divine
beauty and goodness without a single bodily pleasure or pain, — constitutes the only veritable,
indestructible man, whose being is spiritual. This state of existence is scientific and intact, — a
perfection discernible only by those who have the final understanding of Christ in divine Science.

SH 355:11

Let discord of every name and nature be heard no more, and let the harmonious and true sense of
Life and being take possession of human consciousness.

SH 495:28-31
Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding
steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love.

SH 572:6-11
"Love one another" (I John, iii. 23), is the most simple and profound counsel of the inspired
writer. In Science we are children of God; but whatever is of material sense, or mortal, belongs
not to His children, for materiality is the inverted image of spirituality.

SH 274:12-13
The senses of Spirit abide in Love, and they demonstrate Truth and Life.

SH 340:12
Divine Love is infinite. Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love.

SH 577:32-578:18
In the following Psalm one word shows, though faintly, the light which Christian Science throws
on the Scriptures by substituting for the corporeal sense, the incorporeal or spiritual sense of
Deity: —
[DIVINE LOVE] is my shepherd; I shall not want.
[LOVE] maketh me to lie down in green pastures: [LOVE] leadeth me beside the still waters.
[LOVE] restoreth my soul [spiritual sense]: [LOVE] leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for
His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for [LOVE] is
with me; [LOVE'S] rod and [LOVE'S] staff they comfort me.
[LOVE] prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: [LOVE] anointeth my head
with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house
[the consciousness] of [LOVE] for ever.

One moment of divine consciousness, or the spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a
foretaste of eternity.

SH 261:4
Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into
your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.

SH 280:4-6
From Love and from the light and harmony which are the abode of Spirit, only reflections of good
can come.
