Wednesday Readings: Sunday School

The following citations from The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy were read during the Feb. 2, 2011 Wednesday Testimony Meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chagrin Falls, OH. After the readings, those attending the meeting are encouraged to share proofs of God's care.  All are lovingly invited to attend the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday meetings at our church.

The Bible

Isa. 54:13 all
all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

Deut. 31:22
Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.

Deut 32:1-4
Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.  My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.  He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Ex. 20:1 God,3-5 (to :),7,8,12-17 (to covet)
God spake all these words, saying,

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.  Thou shalt not kill.  Thou shalt not commit adultery.  Thou shalt not steal.  Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.  Thou shalt not covet

Lev. 10:11 teach
teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.

Deut. 6:7 teach
teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Prov. 7:1-3 keep

keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.  Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.  Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

John 1:17 the
the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Mark 1:14 Jesus

Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

Mark 6:2 (to 2nd ,)
And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished,

Matt. 5:2-12 (to 2nd :)

And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven:

Matt. 6:6 1st when (to ;)
when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret;

Matt 6:9-13 Our
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.

I Tim. 4:11
These things command and teach.

Deut. 4:1

Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.

Prov. 2:1-12 if (to thee)
if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.  For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.  He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.  He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.  Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.  When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee

I John 5:21 (to 1st .),19 know (to ,)

Matt. 9:13 go (to 1st ,)

go ye and learn what that meaneth,

Prov. 2:20-21
That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.  For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

Prov. 3:1-6 forget
forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.  #Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Science and Health

By Mary Baker Eddy

SH 461:7-10
Christian Science can be taught only by those who are morally advanced and spiritually endowed, for it is not superficial, nor is it discerned from the standpoint of the human senses.

SH 449:16 it
it requires a higher understanding to teach this subject properly and correctly than it does to heal the most difficult case.

452:18-20
Right is radical.  The teacher must know the truth himself.  He must live it and love it, or he cannot impart it to others.

SH 235:13-16 (to ;)

The pure and uplifting thoughts of the teacher, constantly imparted to pupils, will reach higher than the heavens of astronomy;

SH 455:23-25
The All-wise does not bestow His highest trusts upon the unworthy.  When He commissions a messenger, it is one who is spiritually near Himself.

SH 236:28-29
Jesus loved little children because of their freedom from wrong and their receptiveness of right.

SH 62:4

The entire education of children should be such as to form habits of obedience to the moral and spiritual law, with which the child can meet and master the belief in so-called physical laws, a belief which breeds disease.

SH 237:15
Children should be taught the Truth-cure, Christian Science, among their first lessons, and kept from discussing or entertaining theories or thoughts about sickness.  To prevent the experience of error and its sufferings, keep out of the minds of your children either sinful or diseased thoughts.  The latter should be excluded on the same principle as the former.  This makes Christian Science early available.

SH 236:25
Children are more tractable than adults, and learn more readily to love the simple verities that will make them happy and good.

SH 450:11-12
To teach Christian Science to such as these is no task.

SH 416:32
Teach them that their being is sustained by Spirit, not by matter, and that they find health, peace, and harmony in God, divine Love.

SH 445:8-10,13-15
Unfold the latent energies and capacities for good in your pupil.  Teach the great possibilities of man endued with divine Science.

Teach the meekness and might of life "hid with Christ in God," and there will be no desire for other healing methods.

SH 454:4-5

Teach your students the omnipotence of Truth, which illustrates the impotence of error.

108:21 that
that all real being is in God, the divine Mind, and that Life, Truth, and Love are all-powerful and ever-present; that the opposite of Truth,--called error, sin, sickness, disease, death,--is the false testimony of false material sense, of mind in matter; that this false sense evolves, in belief, a subjective state of mortal mind which this same so-called mind names ^matter^, thereby shutting out the true sense of Spirit.

SH 454:5-9
The understanding, even in a degree, of the divine All-power destroys fear, and plants the feet in the true path, --the path which leads to the house built without hands "eternal in the heavens."

SH 461:31
Systematic teaching and the student's spiritual growth and experience in practice are requisite for a thorough comprehension of Christian Science.  Some individuals assimilate truth more readily than others, but any student, who adheres to the divine rules of Christian Science and imbibes the spirit of Christ, can demonstrate Christian Science, cast out error, heal the sick, and add continually to his store of spiritual understanding, potency, enlightenment, and success.

SH 449:3
A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing.

SH 454:25-29
Do not dismiss students at the close of a class term, feeling that you have no more to do for them.  Let your loving care and counsel support all their feeble footsteps, until your students tread firmly in the straight and narrow way.

SH 454:31
Remember that the letter and mental argument are only human auxiliaries to aid in bringing thought into accord with the spirit of Truth and Love, which heals the sick and the sinner.

SH 455:7-10
Hence the necessity of being right yourself in order to teach this Science of healing.  You must utilize the moral might of Mind in order to walk over the waves of error and support your claims by demonstration.

SH 451:31-3
Show your student that mental malpractice tends to blast moral sense, health, and the human life.  Instruct him how to bar the door of his thought against this seeming power,--a task not difficult, when one understands that evil has in reality no power.

SH 448:19-23

Try to leave on every student's mind the strong impress of divine Science, a high sense of the moral and spiritual qualifications requisite for healing, well knowing it to be impossible for error, evil, and hate to accomplish the grand results of Truth and Love.

SH 446:25-27

Not human platitudes, but divine beatitudes, reflect the spiritual light and might which heal the sick.

SH 127:16
Christian Science reveals God, not as the author of sin, sickness, and death, but as divine Principle, Supreme Being, Mind, exempt from all evil.  It teaches that matter is the falsity, not the fact, of existence; that nerves, brain, stomach, lungs, and so forth, have--as matter--no intelligence, life, nor sensation.

SH 448:26-30
If the student adheres strictly to the teachings of Christian Science and ventures not to break its rules, he cannot fail of success in healing.  It is Christian Science to do right, and nothing short of right-doing has any claim to the name.

453:16-17
Honesty is spiritual power.  Dishonesty is human weakness, which forfeits divine help.

SH 476:21-22
Learn this, O mortal, and earnestly seek the spiritual status of man, which is outside of all material selfhood.

SH 414:26
Keep in mind the verity of being,--that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent.  Remember that man's perfection is real and unimpeachable, whereas imperfection is blameworthy, unreal, and is not brought about by divine Love.

468:9-15 There
There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter.  All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all.  Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error.  Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal.  Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness.  Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.

SH 301:17-23
As God is substance and man is the divine image and likeness, man should wish for, and in reality has, only the substance of good, the substance of Spirit, not matter.  The belief that man has any other substance, or mind, is not spiritual and breaks the First Commandment, Thou shalt have one God, one Mind.

459:24-26
To mortal sense Christian Science seems abstract, but the process is simple and the results are sure if the Science is understood.

SH 456:25-27,27-30 Because;457:4 Because

A Christian Scientist requires my work SCIENCE AND HEALTH for his textbook, and so do all his students and patients.

Because it is the voice of Truth to this age, and contains the full statement of Christian Science, or the Science of healing through Mind.

Because this book has done more for teacher and student, for healer and patient, than has been accomplished by other books.

SH 147:14-20
Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple ^perusal^ of this book.  The book needs to be ^studied^, and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science.

SH 495:27-496:1 Study
Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit.  Adhere to the divine Principle of Christian Science and follow the behests of God, abiding steadfastly in wisdom, Truth, and Love.  In the Science of Mind, you will soon ascertain that error cannot destroy error.

SH 84:30-85:1
If this Science has been thoroughly learned and properly digested, we can know the truth more accurately than the astronomer can read the stars or calculate an eclipse.

SH 249:1
Let us accept Science, relinquish all theories based on sense-testimony, give up imperfect models and illusive ideals; and so let us have one God, one Mind, and that one perfect, producing His own models of excellence.

SH 384:12
Through this action of thought and its results upon the body, the student will prove to himself, by small beginnings, the grand verities of Christian Science.

SH 264:28
When we learn the way in Christian Science and recognize man's spiritual being, we shall behold and understand God's creation,--all the glories of earth and heaven and man.
