Stand Perfect and Complete in God

The following citations from the Bible and Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures were read during the August 19, 2009  Wednesday Testimony Meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. After the readings, members of the congregation share related experiences of how God helps in times of trouble.

The Bible

Gen 1:27,31(to 1st .)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

Gen 2:2 God (to ;)

God ended his work which he had made;

Col 2:10 (to ,)

And ye are complete in him,

Ps 8:1,3-9
O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?  For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.  Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.  O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Eccl 3:14 (to 2nd :)

I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it:

Ps 45:13 (to:)
The king's daughter is all glorious within:

Prov 31:10-12,29,30 a woman
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Ps 1:1-3
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Ps 37:37
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

Isa 7:14-15

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.  Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

Isa 9:2,6,7 (to 1st .)
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.

John 10:22-25,30
And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.  And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.  Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.  Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

I and my Father are one.

Matt 5:48
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Matt 14:35,36
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

Luke 8:43-48 a (to ;)
a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.  And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?  And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.  And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.  And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole;

John 5:2-17,19
Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.  In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.  For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.  And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.  When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?  The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.  Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.  And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.  #The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.  He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.  Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?  And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.  Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.  The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.  And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.  #But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

I Kings 8:61
Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

Col 4:12 that ye
that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

Luke 17:19 Arise

Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Science and Health

527:4

Man is God's reflection, needing no cultivation, but ever beautiful and complete.

524:17-19
With a single command, Mind had made man, both male and female.

249:5 (only)

Let the "male and female" of God's creating appear.

57:4-11
Union of the masculine and feminine qualities constitutes completeness.  The masculine mind reaches a higher tone through certain elements of the feminine, while the feminine mind gains courage and strength through masculine qualities.  These different elements conjoin naturally with each other, and their true harmony is in spiritual oneness.  Both sexes should be loving, pure, tender, and strong.

517:8-10,21-22 This

The ideal man corresponds to creation, to intelligence, and to Truth.  The ideal woman corresponds to Life and to Love.

This ideal is God's own image, spiritual and infinite.

525:22-24
In the Science of Genesis we read that He saw everything which He had made, "and, behold, it was very good."

519:9-11
Thus the ideas of God in universal being are complete and forever expressed, for Science reveals infinity and the fatherhood and motherhood of Love.

588:11-15
There is but one I, or Us, but one divine Principle, or Mind, governing all existence; man and woman unchanged forever in their individual characters, even as numbers which never blend with each other, though they are governed by one Principle.

518:27-29 (to .)
The divine Principle, or Spirit, comprehends and expresses all, and all must therefore be as perfect as the divine Principle is perfect.

259:15
If man was once perfect but has now lost his perfection, then mortals have never beheld in man the reflex image of God.  The ^lost^ image is no image.  The true likeness cannot be lost in divine reflection.  Understanding this, Jesus said: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

406:20 -25 We can

We can, and ultimately shall, so rise as to avail ourselves in every direction of the supremacy of Truth over error, Life over death, and good over evil, and this growth will go on until we arrive at the fulness of God's idea, and no more fear that we shall be sick and die.

407:24-26
Let the perfect model be present in your thoughts instead of its demoralized opposite.

276:19

When we learn in Science how to be perfect even as our Father in heaven is perfect, thought is turned into new and healthy channels,--towards the contemplation of things immortal and away from materiality to the Principle of the universe, including harmonious man.

372:14-15
When man demonstrates Christian Science absolutely, he will be perfect.

476:32-4

Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals.  In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick.

264:13
As mortals gain more correct views of God and man, multitudinous objects of creation, which before were invisible, will become visible.  When we realize that Life is Spirit, never in nor of matter, this understanding will expand into self-completeness, finding all in God, good, and needing no other consciousness.

260:31

If we look to the body for pleasure, we find pain; for Life, we find death; for Truth, we find error; for Spirit, we find its opposite, matter.  Now reverse this action.  Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality.  Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.

273:1-20
Matter and its claims of sin, sickness, and death are contrary to God, and cannot emanate from Him.  There is no ^material^ truth.  The physical senses can take no cognizance of God and spiritual Truth.  Human belief has sought out many inventions, but not one of them can solve the problem of being without the divine Principle of divine Science.  Deductions from material hypotheses are not scientific.  They differ from real Science because they are not based on the divine law.
Divine Science reverses the false testimony of the material senses, and thus tears away the foundations of error.  Hence the enmity between Science and the senses, and the impossibility of attaining perfect understanding till the errors of sense are eliminated.
The so-called laws of matter and of medical science have never made mortals whole, harmonious, and immortal.  Man is harmonious when governed by Soul.  Hence the importance of understanding the truth of being, which reveals the laws of spiritual existence.

275:10-24
To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the divine Principle of all that really is.  Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, combine as one,--and are the Scriptural names for God.  All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God.  These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love.  No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.
Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understanding, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is God, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, --that is, all power, all presence, all Science.  Hence all is in reality the manifestation of Mind.

493:28-2

If Jesus awakened Lazarus from the dream, illusion, of death, this proved that the Christ could improve on a false sense.  Who dares to doubt this consummate test of the power and willingness of divine Mind to hold man forever intact in his perfect state, and to govern man's entire action?

428:22-23

The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man ^is^, not ^shall be^, perfect and immortal.

371:22

No impossible thing do I ask when urging the claims of Christian Science; but because this teaching is in advance of the age, we should not deny our need of its spiritual unfoldment.  Mankind will improve through Science and Christianity.  The necessity for uplifting the race is father to the fact that Mind can do it; for Mind can impart purity instead of impurity, strength instead of weakness, and health instead of disease.  Truth is an alterative in the entire system, and can make it "every whit whole."

115:15
MAN: God's spiritual idea, individual, perfect, eternal.
