Wednesday Readings: Opportunities

The following citations from The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy were read during the Aug. 18, 2010 Wednesday Testimony Meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chagrin Falls, OH. After the readings, those attending the meeting are encouraged to share proofs of God's care.  All are lovingly invited to attend the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday meetings at our church.

The Bible

Job 7:4,17,18
When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?  And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment?

Psalms 143:8,10

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

Eccl 2:26 (to :)
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy:

Deut 28:3-6

Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.  Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.  Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.  Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

Isa 52:6-7

Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.  #How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

Mark 11:22-24
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.  For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Luke 17:12-16
And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.  And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

Eph 3:14-21
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Rom 13:1, 12-13(to;)
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.  Let us walk honestly, as in the day;

Psalms 63:1-4
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.  Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.  Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

Mal 3:10 prove
prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Luke 15:31

And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

by Mary Baker Eddy

vii:1-10
To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings.  The wakeful shepherd beholds the first faint morning beams, ere cometh the full radiance of a risen day.  So shone the pale star to the prophet-shepherds; yet it traversed the night, and came where, in cradled obscurity, lay the Bethlehem babe, the human herald of Christ, Truth, who would make plain to benighted understanding the way of salvation through Christ Jesus, till across a night of error should dawn the morning beams and shine the guiding star of being.

2:4-11,23 (to?)

Are we benefited by praying?  Yes, the desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void.
God is not moved by the breath of praise to do more than He has already done, nor can the infinite do less than bestow all good, since He is unchanging wisdom and Love.

God is Love.  Can we ask Him to be more?

3:9
His work is done, and we have only to avail ourselves of God's rule in order to receive His blessing, which enables us to work out our own salvation.

340:12
Divine Love is infinite.  Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love.

494:10
Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.  It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good.

103:15
The maximum of good is the infinite God and His idea, the All-in-all.  Evil is a suppositional lie.

339:7-10
XXXI.  Since God is All, there is no room for His unlikeness.  God, Spirit, alone created all, and called it good.  Therefore evil, being contrary to good, is unreal, and cannot be the product of God.

480:26-2
The Bible declares: "All things were made by Him [the divine Word]; and without Him was not anything made that was made."  This is the eternal verity of divine Science.  If sin, sickness, and death were understood as nothingness, they would disappear.  As vapor melts before the sun, so evil would vanish before the reality of good.  One must hide the other.  How important, then, to choose good as the reality!

353:16 Perfection

Perfection underlies reality.  Without perfection, nothing is wholly real.  All things will continue to disappear, until perfection appears and reality is reached.  We must give up the spectral at all points.  We must not continue to admit the somethingness of superstition, but we must yield up all belief in it and be wise.  When we learn that error is not real, we shall be ready for progress, "forgetting those things which are behind."

2:26
Do we expect to change perfection?  Shall we plead for more at the open fount, which is pouring forth more than we accept?  The unspoken desire does bring us nearer the source of all existence and blessedness.

426:5-9
The discoverer of Christian Science finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it.  When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress.

233:1
Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power.  These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them.  This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil.

520:3-5 (to !)

Unfathomable Mind is expressed.  The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space.  That is enough!

520:10
The numerals of infinity, called ^seven days^, can never be reckoned according to the calendar of time.  These days will appear as mortality disappears, and they will reveal eternity, newness of Life, in which all sense of error forever disappears and thought accepts the divine infinite calculus.

584:1-8
DAY.  The irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love.
"And the evening and the morning were the first day." (Genesis i. 5.)  The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded.  This unfolding is God's day, and "there shall be no night there."

592:21 darkness

Darkness; doubt; fear.
