Wednesday Readings: One Nation Under God

The following citations from The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy were read during the August 3, 2011 Wednesday Testimony Meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chagrin Falls, OH. After the readings, those attending the meeting are encouraged to share proofs of God's care.  All are lovingly invited to attend the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday meetings at our church.

The Bible

Mark 3:24-25 if
if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.  And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

Gen. 11:1 the,2,4
the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.  And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Gal. 6:7 (to :)
Be not deceived; God is not mocked:

Gen 11:5,6 (to :),7-9
And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.  And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do:

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.  So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Isa. 44:2 thus (to 1st ,),6 I am,24 I am
Thus saith the Lord that made thee,

I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

Gen 12:2,3
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Gen. 1:28 (to dominion)
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion

Isa 2:2 it
it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

Mic 4:2-5
And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.  #And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.  But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it.  For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.

Ezek. 16:59 thus (to ;)
thus saith the Lord God;

Ezek. 16:62 I
I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord:

I Cor 12:4 (to Now),5 there,6,11-12,18
Now there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.  And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.  For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

Rom 12:5
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Eph 4:4-7,13-15
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

I Thess. 3:12 (to 2nd ,)
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men,

Rom. 12:9-16 (to 1st .)
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.  Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.  Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.  Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.  Be of the same mind one toward another.

I Pet. 3:8-9 be
be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

SH 581:17-18 (to ;)
  BABEL.  Self-destroying error; a kingdom divided against itself, which cannot stand;

SH 225:14-16
The history of our country, like all history, illustrates the might of Mind, and shows human power to be proportionate to its embodiment of right thinking.

SH 467:9
It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love.  Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brotherhood of man will be established.  Having no other gods, turning to no other but the one perfect Mind to guide him, man is the likeness of God, pure and eternal, having that Mind which was also in Christ.

SH 251:30
Inharmonious beliefs, which rob Mind, calling it matter, and deify their own notions, imprison themselves in what they create.  They are at war with Science, and as our Master said, "If a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand."

SH 399:27
The one Mind, God, contains no mortal opinions.  All that is real is included in this immortal Mind.

SH 226:18
Human codes, scholastic theology, material medicine and hygiene, fetter faith and spiritual understanding.  Divine Science rends asunder these fetters, and man's birthright of sole allegiance to his Maker asserts itself.

SH 273:29-3
Science shows that material, conflicting mortal opinions and beliefs emit the effects of error at all times, but this atmosphere of mortal mind cannot be destructive to morals and health when it is opposed promptly and persistently by Christian Science.  Truth and Love antidote this mental miasma, and thus invigorate and sustain existence.

SH 282:28-31
Whatever indicates the fall of man or the opposite of God or God's absence, is the Adam-dream, which is neither Mind nor man, for it is not begotten of the Father.

SH 470:19,28-30
Has God taken down His own standard, and has man fallen?

If man has lost perfection, then he has lost his perfect Principle, the divine Mind.

283:6-7
Mind is the same Life, Love, and wisdom "yesterday, and to-day, and forever."

Mortals move onward towards good or evil as time glides on.  If mortals are not progressive, past failures will be repeated until all wrong work is effaced or rectified.  If at present satisfied with wrong-doing, we must learn to loathe it.  If at present content with idleness, we must become dissatisfied with it.  Remember that mankind must sooner or later, either by suffering or by Science, be convinced of the error that is to be overcome.
In trying to undo the errors of sense one must pay fully and fairly the utmost farthing, until all error is finally brought into subjection to Truth.  The divine method of paying sin's wages involves unwinding one's snarls, and learning from experience how to divide between sense and Soul.

SH 20:24-25
Material belief is slow to acknowledge what the spiritual fact implies.

SH 276:4-9
When the divine precepts are understood, they unfold the foundation of fellowship, in which one mind is not at war with another, but all have one Spirit, God, one intelligent source, in accordance with the Scriptural command: "Let this Mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."

SH 469:28-5
This belief that there is more than one mind is as pernicious to divine theology as are ancient mythology and pagan idolatry.  With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science.

SH 205:22-31
When we realize that there is one Mind, the divine law of loving our neighbor as ourselves is unfolded; whereas a belief in many ruling minds hinders man's normal drift towards the one Mind, one God, and leads human thought into opposite channels where selfishness reigns.
Selfishness tips the beam of human existence towards the side of error, not towards Truth.  Denial of the oneness of Mind throws our weight into the scale, not of Spirit, God, good, but of matter.

SH 470:16 (only)
The children of God have but one Mind.

205:32-3
When we fully understand our relation to the Divine, we can have no other Mind but His,--no other Love, wisdom, or Truth, no other sense of Life, and no consciousness of the existence of matter or error.

SH 522:10
Existence, separate from divinity, Science explains as impossible.

SH 340:23
One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself;" annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,--whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.

SH 577:9
In this divinely united spiritual consciousness, there is no impediment to eternal bliss,--to the perfectibility of God's creation.

SH 423:8-10
The Christian Scientist, understanding scientifically that all is Mind, commences with mental causation, the truth of being, to destroy the error.

SH 404:17-19
The temperance reform, felt all over our land, results from metaphysical healing, which cuts down every tree that brings not forth good fruit.

SH 571:19
The cement of a higher humanity will unite all interests in the one divinity.
