The Bible

Isa 58:6 let (to 3rd ,)
let the oppressed go free,

Ex 1:8,9,10 let us (to ;),13
Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.  And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
let us deal wisely with them;

And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

Ex 2:25
And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

Ex 3:1,7,8 (to ;),9,10
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey;

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.  Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Ex 7:1 ( to 1st ,),15,16 (to 1st ,),17 behold,18,20 (to ;),22 and Pharaoh's
And the Lord said unto Moses, Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.  And thou shalt say unto him, behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.  And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.

And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the Lord had said.

Ex 8:1,2, 16 and smite, 21 behold, 32
And the Lord spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Let my people go, that they may serve me.  And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs: and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.

behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.

And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.

Ex 9:1 (to 3rd ,),3,6,8,10,12,15,18,24

Then the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him,

Behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.

And the Lord did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

And the Lord said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.

And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.

And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had spoken unto Moses.

For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.

Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.

So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

Ex 10:1,4 behold,5,21-23
And the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:

behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast: And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:

And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.  And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

Ex 11:1,4-7
And the Lord said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether.

And Moses said, Thus saith the Lord, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.  And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.  But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

Ex 12:29 (to 1st ,),30,31

And it came to pass,

And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.  And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the Lord, as ye have said.

Ex 13:17,18
#And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt: But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

Ex 20:1-3
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Deut 5:1 (to 2nd ,)

And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them,

Deut 18:15

The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

John 1:17 the law
the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Luke 4:14-19 Jesus,21
Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.  And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias.  And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Luke13:11-14 (to 2nd ,),15-17
And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.  And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.  And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.  And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day,

The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?  And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?  And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Gal 5:1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Ps 119:45
And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures

200:4
Moses advanced a nation to the worship of God in Spirit instead of matter, and illustrated the grand human capacities of being bestowed by immortal Mind.

133:8-9,13-15
In Egypt, it was Mind which saved the Israelites from belief in the plagues.

In national prosperity, miracles attended the successes of the Hebrews; but when they departed from the true idea, their demoralization began.

315:16
The likeness of God we lose sight of through sin, which beclouds the spiritual sense of Truth; and we realize this likeness only when we subdue sin and prove man's heritage, the liberty of the sons of God.

280:17-21
Moses declared as Jehovah's first command of the Ten: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me!"  But behold the zeal of belief to establish the opposite error of many minds.

469:28-30
This belief that there is more than one mind is as pernicious to divine theology as are ancient mythology and pagan idolatry.

470:5
The supposed existence of more than one mind was the basic error of idolatry.  This error assumed the loss of spiritual power, the loss of the spiritual presence of Life as infinite Truth without an unlikeness, and the loss of Love as ever present and universal.

224:28-28 np
Truth brings the elements of liberty.  On its banner is the Soul-inspired motto, "Slavery is abolished."  The power of God brings deliverance to the captive.  No power can withstand divine Love.  What is this supposed power, which opposes itself to God?  Whence cometh it?  What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death?  Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government.  Truth makes man free.

You may know when first Truth leads by the fewness and faithfulness of its followers.  Thus it is that the march of time bears onward freedom's banner.  The powers of this world will fight, and will command their sentinels not to let truth pass the guard until it subscribes to their systems; but Science, heeding not the pointed bayonet, marches on.  There is always some tumult, but there is a rallying to truth's standard.

The history of our country, like all history, illustrates the might of Mind, and shows human power to be proportionate to its embodiment of right thinking.  A few immortal sentences, breathing the omnipotence of divine justice, have been potent to break despotic fetters and abolish the whipping-post and slave market; but oppression neither went down in blood, nor did the breath of freedom come from the cannon's mouth.  Love is the liberator.

Legally to abolish unpaid servitude in the United States was hard; but the abolition of mental slavery is a more difficult task.  The despotic tendencies, inherent in mortal mind and always germinating in new forms of tyranny, must be rooted out through the action of the divine Mind.

18:10
Jesus acted boldly, against the accredited evidence of the senses, against Pharisaical creeds and practices, and he refuted all opponents with his healing power.

226:18
Human codes, scholastic theology, material medicine and hygiene, fetter faith and spiritual understanding.  Divine Science rends asunder these fetters, and man's birthright of sole allegiance to his Maker asserts itself.

495:6
If sickness is true or the idea of Truth, you cannot destroy sickness, and it would be absurd to try.  Then classify sickness and error as our Master did, when he spoke of the sick, "whom Satan hath bound," and find a sovereign antidote for error in the life-giving power of Truth acting on human belief, a power which opens the prison doors to such as are bound, and sets the captive free physically and morally.

566:1-9
As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides of human fear,--as they were led through the wilderness, walking wearily through the great desert of human hopes, and anticipating the promised joy,--so shall the spiritual idea guide all right desires in their passage from sense to Soul, from a material sense of existence to the spiritual, up to the glory prepared for them who love God.

242:6
Denial of the claims of matter is a great step towards the joys of Spirit, towards human freedom and the final triumph over the body.

228:11
The enslavement of man is not legitimate.  It will cease when man enters into his heritage of freedom, his God-given dominion over the material senses.  Mortals will some day assert their freedom in the name of Almighty God.  Then they will control their own bodies through the understanding of divine Science.  Dropping their present beliefs, they will recognize harmony as the spiritual reality and discord as the material unreality.

227:14-19
Discerning the rights of man, we cannot fail to foresee the doom of all oppression.  Slavery is not the legitimate state of man.  God made man free.  Paul said, "I was free born."  All men should be free.  "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

106:6-9

Like our nation, Christian Science has its Declaration of Independence.  God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience.

227:21

Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: "Follow me!  Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!"  Jesus marked out the way.  Citizens of the world, accept the "glorious liberty of the children of God," and be free!  This is your divine right.  The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being.
