God With Us

The following citations from The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy were read during the May 19, 2010 Wednesday Testimony Meeting of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chagrin Falls, OH. After the readings, those attending the meeting are encouraged to share proofs of God's care.  All are lovingly invited to attend the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday meetings at our church.

The Bible

Jer 23:23,24 (to 2nd ?)
Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off?  Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him?  saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth?

Ps 139:1,7-10
O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?  If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.  If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

Ps 34:4,7
I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

Josh 1:1,7 be, 9 for
Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

II Chron 15:2 The (to 3rd ;)
The Lord is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you;

II Chron 19:1
And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

II Chron 20:2 (to ;), 3,5,6,14(to 1st ,),14 came,15,17,22,27
Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria;

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen?  and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah,

came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation; And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.

And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

II Chron. 20:31 (to :),32
And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah:

And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.

Isa 41:10,11
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.  Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.

Isa 43:2,5 (to 2nd :)
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Fear not: for I am with thee:

John 8:1,2,12-14 saying,26,29
Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.  And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.  The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.  Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John 10:23-25,30,37,38
And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.  Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.  Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

I and my Father are one.

If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.  But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

Matt 28:16,18-20 (to 1st .)
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  #Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures

by Mary Baker Eddy

S H 473:7-15,26-29
The God-principle is omnipresent and omnipotent.  God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power.  Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God.  Jesus is the name of the man who, more than all other men, has presented Christ, the true idea of God, healing the sick and the sinning and destroying the power of death.  Jesus established what he said by demonstration, thus making his acts of higher importance than his words.  He proved what he taught.  This is the Science of Christianity.

xi:9
The physical healing of Christian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation.  Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural.  They are the sign of Immanuel, or "God with us,"--a divine influence ever present in human consciousness and repeating itself, coming now as was promised aforetime,

To preach deliverance to the captives [of sense],
And recovering of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty them that are bruised.

SH 14:6
To be "present with the Lord" is to have, not mere emotional ecstasy or faith, but the actual demonstration and understanding of Life as revealed in Christian Science.  To be "with the Lord" is to be in obedience to the law of God, to be absolutely governed by divine Love,--by Spirit, not by matter.

SH 12:31-3
In divine Science, where prayers are mental, ^all^ may avail themselves of God as "a very present help in trouble." Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals.

SH 72:21-23
God, good, being ever present, it follows in divine logic that evil, the suppositional opposite of good, is never present.

109:6,32
This great fact is not, however, seen to be supported by sensible evidence, until its divine Principle is demonstrated by healing the sick and thus proved absolute and divine.  This proof once seen, no other conclusion can be reached.

The three great verities of Spirit, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience,--Spirit possessing all power, filling all space, constituting all Science,--contradict forever the belief that matter can be actual.  These eternal verities reveal primeval existence as the radiant reality of God's creation, in which all that He has made is pronounced by His wisdom good.

SH 512:8-13
Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power, and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love.  These angels of His presence, which have the holiest charge, abound in the spiritual atmosphere of Mind, and consequently reproduce their own characteristics.

SH 298:28-30
Angels are pure thoughts from God, winged with Truth and Love, no matter what their individualism may be.

SH 566:29-3
The Old Testament assigns to the angels, God's divine messages, different offices.  Michael's characteristic is spiritual strength.  He leads the hosts of heaven against the power of sin, Satan, and fights the holy wars.  Gabriel has the more quiet task of imparting a sense of the ever-presence of ministering Love.

SH 304:3-9
It is ignorance and false belief, based on a material sense of things, which hide spiritual beauty and goodness.  Understanding this, Paul said: "Neither death, nor life, . . . nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God."

SH 303:28-2
Spiritual man is the image or idea of God, an idea which cannot be lost nor separated from its divine Principle.  When the evidence before the material senses yielded to spiritual sense, the apostle declared that nothing could alienate him from God, from the sweet sense and presence of Life and Truth.

SH 414:21-28
The Scripture declares, "The Lord He is God [good]; there is none else beside Him."  Even so, harmony is universal, and discord is unreal.  Christian Science declares that Mind is substance, also that matter neither feels, suffers, nor enjoys.  Hold these points strongly in view.  Keep in mind the verity of being,--that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent.

SH 410:14-17
Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger.  The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love.

SH 411:27-32
Always begin your treatment by allaying the fear of patients.  Silently reassure them as to their exemption from disease and danger.  Watch the result of this simple rule of Christian Science, and you will find that it alleviates the symptoms of every disease.

SH 421:15-18
Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him.

SH 130:26
If thought is startled at the strong claim of Science for the supremacy of God, or Truth, and doubts the supremacy of good, ought we not, contrariwise, to be astounded at the vigorous claims of evil and doubt them, and no longer think it natural to love sin and unnatural to forsake it,--no longer imagine evil to be ever-present and good absent?  Truth should not seem so surprising and unnatural as error, and error should not seem so real as truth.  Sickness should not seem so real as health.  There is no error in Science, and our lives must be governed by reality in order to be in harmony with God, the divine Principle of all being.

SH 444:10
Step by step will those who trust Him find that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

SH 445:15
You render the divine law of healing obscure and void, when you weigh the human in the scale with the divine, or limit in any direction of thought the omnipresence and omnipotence of God.

SH 471:13-19
The facts of divine Science should be admitted,--although the evidence as to these facts is not supported by evil, by matter, or by material sense,--because the evidence that God and man coexist is fully sustained by spiritual sense.  Man is, and forever has been, God's reflection.  God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence.
